FAQ

How do I know if my child is ready to ride a bike?

Children who are just learning to walk need to practice balancing before trying to pedal a bicycle. Start by having your child stand up on one foot and then gradually increase the length she stands on her feet. After she is proficient at this task, she can stand on one foot and then switch to both feet.

Children already walking should be able to hop on a tricycle or scooter. Ask your doctor if your child will require special equipment to ensure safety.

If your kid is older than four years old, he or she is probably ready to start riding a bicycle. Begin by teaching your child to balance on two wheels. Then, teach him or her to steer using hand signals. Next, teach your child to brake safely.

Safety must be the first priority, no matter what age your child is. You can teach your children to be safe by teaching them to cross the street with both eyes and to use helmets when riding bikes.
