This Weekend: Kid-Friendly DC Events





There are many DC events you can attend with kids this holiday season. While some events require tickets, others are free. Here are some ideas that will help you get started.

The Washington Waldorf School holds its annual holiday marketplace since 2019. This event is family-friendly with lots of activities for kids of all ages. You can make crafts or DIY projects with your children, and there will be live entertainment and delicious treats. A large variety of handmade crafts by local artisans will be available. It is free to shop at the market and you can take some amazing photos. You can also shop unique holiday gifts. You'll even find s'mores treats to enjoy at the market.

The Capitol Tree Lighting takes place every night between December 1 and January 1. You can enjoy many activities, and it is free. Washington landmarks will be decorated with Christmas trees. The Jolly Man, a firetruck-powered performer, will be performing live at the event.




The National Building Museum offers memberships that include free admission to some of the exhibits. Register for a preview invitation and get tickets to special events. Special deals are also available for tickets to The Nutcracker's holiday show.


Christkindlmarkt is a German-style holiday craft market that takes place near Dupont Circle. The market supports local artisans and craftspeople, and includes over 50 small-scale sellers.
