Fun Summer Camp Ideas





Summer camps provide children with a chance to experience new experiences, gain a sense if themselves, and acquire life skills. They are a great way for parents to have some peace of mind while their children travel. To assess the social-motivational climate during summer camps, the Motivational Culture Observation Tool for Physical Activity(MCOTPA) was created. To evaluate the social-motivational climate of the summer camps, teams of two coders observed daily activities for four days over two weeks. A total of 20 children were also equipped with accelerometers to monitor the time it took to accumulate MVPA.

Results showed that girls and boys had similar median MVPA minutes, with a median 96 and 80 minutes, respectively. Girls' time in PA was driven by peer relations and social support, whereas males' time in PA was driven by ego orientation.


The majority of autonomous play instances were found in unstructured play, according to observations. The majority of activities were very engaging with only 24% showing any organized activity.

Camp 2 had a smaller gym than the other camps. It was therefore more difficult for all campers to participate in one activity. The camp offered more organized activities and had more space.




Additionally, most of the youth remained at the program through the day. Additionally, the camp environment was conducive for outdoor recreation. All the camps were situated within 10 miles of an Urban Center or a Suburban Area.
